[20 Dec 2008|12:44am]
School is over, it's cold, I have a week off from work, had a nice dinner with friends and then went to a movie... Jeff is playing guitar to the radio. Everything that was so chaotic has come to a still. I am excited for the quiet but also terrified that I'll finally have time to reflect about the man that is now behind bars and the trial that preceded it.

It's half-passed two in New York City and I have about 48 hours left here. I just ate a $6 Snickers from the mini bar. I'm looking at apartments. I want to move up the big move. Being here again for less than three days only confirms that I am finally ready.

I think when it comes to this election, as important as selecting a presidential candidate is, so is spending a lot of time focusing on our state's propositions. I've been trying really, really hard to fully read and understand each one in time for November 4.

One that has a lot of attention right now, and specifically my attention, is Proposition 8. In a nutshell, voting YES on Prop. 8 restores the term of "marriage" within our states laws to require a man and a woman. Currently, gay and lesbian couples can marry after 4 supreme court judges found that denying same sex couples the ability to marry was unconstitutional. Voting NO on Prop. 8 will keep the current system of equality within marriage in California.

It seems to be a pretty sensitive subject for a lot of people. My neighborhood is littered with signs for and against Prop. 8. I've been trying to get some feedback from some of my friends, co-workers, and students in my classes and so far it is always divided by ONE factor: Religion.

I really want to find someone who is planning on voting "Yes" on Prop. 8 that wont give me a reason why that I've already heard. I think this is a pretty interesting Proposition and I think it might be the topic of an upcoming paper I will write.

So please give me your opinion: What do YOU believe is right? Will you vote "Yes" or "No"?

I feel like if I don't blog I will either A) cry B) over-drink my allotted three glasses of red wine per week C) pull out my hair (and that is not an option. It's fake... and expensive).

Current woes: Missed class last Monday to which my professeur (French class) decided to CHANGE and redistribute the class syllabus which moved up our homework due dates by one week. So when I came to class tonight, I found out that the homework that I thought was due NEXT Tuesday, was actually due YESTERDAY. And she doesn't accept late work. I don't know who I am going to vote for in November. I have worked overtime almost every week, citing why I missed class last Monday. The health insurance I have through my parents' plan expires when I turn 23 next May, or I can pay hundreds a month to continue on that plan. So I need to enroll under my company's [awesome] insurance plan -- HOWEVER, that insurance plan and all over insurance companies will not cover me because I have "pre-existing injuries" due to my spinal injuries stemming from 2004 collision with a drunk driver... so I am a 22-year-old woman in pristine health with a full-time job at a lucrative finance firm with an amazing healthcare plan that cannot get health insurance coverage.

I could go on, but I'm already getting fired up again.

I don't like it when life is perfect... it always seems to mean that some catastrophe is imminent.

Today I took the train to Riverside to avoid the rush hour traffic... I had reservations about it for some reason.

I got off at my stop at 5:20. After being picked up, we turned the corner to find a body covered with a blanket on the train tracks. The train that I just stepped off of hit a man on a bicycle and killed him instantly at 5:29.

Waiting for the timer to go off for dinner, figured I'd fill cyberspace in. Jeff and I are currently sitting on the couch, sandwiching his chocolate lab that we are babysitting while his parents are in Europe. Why this stings: we were going to go with them. Seems like everyone is jet-setting this week... most of my friends, co-workers, and even my own family. I'm currently kicking myself for turning the said trip down, but only because I could have been eating crepes while sunning on the French Rivera rather than staying late at work tonight. Honestly, I have my reasons. Sometimes being miserable at home is better than being miserable in the Mediterranean. Hrmp.

Good things are that I got a review today, which followed with a hefty bonus... unfortunately taxes consume of half of the bonus... but I think they try to compensate for that when they give them to us, explaining the large sum. With that I am warranted to buy my way into a New York visit before the summer is over. I have Friday off for the 4th and I'll be finally reunited with all my wonderful friends (and probably some dopes) to set off fireworks at Keto's Newport Peninsula manor. Dinner's ready!

22nd birthday was ridiculously fun... note to self to rent a hummer limo for any possible occasion. I wish Brittany was able to go, the only blunder of the evening.

Pictures soon.

Here I am ignoring homework, laundry, and getting ready for a BBQ. My work/school schedule is so intense that vegging is almost my favorite thing to do besides an afternoon at Barney's. School is coming to a close and as most people will be out for the summer, I will spend hot summer nights in French 2, unfortunately. The mere 8 days between summer ending and the fall semester starting will be spent in Montreal and NYC... but the French 2 will come in handy with the Quebecois. My golden birthday (I'll be 22 on May 22) is in a few weeks and I had to think of something completely ridiculous to do to celebrate... so I rented a Hummer Limo and invited 20 of my friends to spend a night running around in Los Angeles. The night truly will not be complete unless we can somehow fit it in a Del Taco drive-thru at 2am. We are going to S Bar, possibly Rhonda, and then off to Jumbo's Clown Room (a burlesque show). I need to find a dress, that isn't plain, nothing to matchy, but something that can be accented by this Marc bag ) that I my dad bought me last month in Vegas. I've trained him well!

I didn't know until Thursday that I had Good Friday as a paid day off from work. My response: "Every Friday is good... but this one is SUPER good." And it was! Jeff and I woke up at 9am (sleeping in, for me) and both sat in bed with our laptops until 9:30... then we got up and I started cleaning. I was actually LOOKING FORWARD to cleaning. During school, we have a maid come once a month but since we moved she hasn't been around. I wish I had time to clean, I really do enjoy it. Then I made sandwiches and chips and ate it out on the patio. It was such a nice day. I did eight loads of laundry, took a relaxing bath, and then watched Breakfast at Tiffany's while Jeff took a nap. When Jeff woke up it got to the part where Holly Golightly is making Chicken and Saffron rice for "Fred," and that sounded pretty good. Ironically, we had saffron rice and veggie chicken, so Jeff made that for us. After dinner it was about time to head out to my parents' house (because we are leaving for Vegas tomorrow morning with them). On the way to Corona I met up with some old friends, hung out with Travis for a while. Now I'm sitting on the couch with my dad, we're both playing Solitaire on our laptops and watching some documentary on Jesus. Next week is Spring Break and I am pretty pleased about that... this semester isn't even a fraction as brutal as my last but I have a terrible case of senioritius and just can't wait to graduate already. Our new place is coming together more and more every week and is starting to feel like home. Here are some pictures of some random things:

Where all the... magic... happens?

An inherited gift from Jeff's great aunt... this table is from 1913!!

A bench in our bedroom, the painting above it is also from Jeff's great aunt... who had fantastic taste in art

Also from Jeff's great aunt... she was quite the collector!

I'll post more when we get the rest of our furniture in the mail!
